Question about m142 atacms

Hello

I’ve almost finished the 1/35 M142 ATACMS Foreart. It’s a fully armored cabin version with that antenna on the back.

  1. Does anyone know when this version entered service?
  2. Was it deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, or Syria during the “War on Terror” (2003+)?

Thanks for your help.

Armored HIMARS cabs began appearing around 2009–10, with the ICP cab entering production around 2009/10. HIMARS had already seen combat in Afghanistan by then, but the earliest Afghan machines weren’t necessarily fitted with the later armored cab. HIMARS was subsequently used extensively in Syria, including combat operations from 2017 onward.
So - likely used in Syria, but only photographic evidence will confirm it. As with all things, absence of evidence doesn’t mean it wasn’t.

Nice. I have one of the M142 HIMARS that Foreart put together. I went with the US version, as opposed to the “In Ukrainian Servie” version.

It’ll definitely be a fun build.

I’ve started my first full on build. My previous ones have left off many parts that would break with handling - gladhands in particular. I’ve also left off many of the engine parts, nearly the complete interiors, and a lot of the finicky parts on the launcher that no one sees, as well as the little brake cylinders. I figure I’ve saved several hours on them. With this new build, having an open door, I have to actually become a “good” modeler again. I got a few of the “Ukrainian” versions for the missiles, but now have more than I needed.

You could probably build a dio with an M142 being reloaded in the field. You seem to have enough of the rocket pods to drop on a HEMTT trailer. wink-wink.

I have an eventual plan for the pods as well well as a few ATACMS rockets.

You could also build an M1083 HIMARS Reload Vehicle. HIMARS units don’t use the M985 Ammo Carrier…

…for that matter neither do MLRS Bns anymore. They have transitioned to M1120 HEMTT LHSs as ammo carriers.

That’s where I was going. Since there’s already a discussion on the HEMTT PLS and associated trailer.

Wow did not know they were used in Afghanistan.

Iraq too?

This discussion about the pods prompted a new line of thought for me. I’ve done reloading scenes, and so has nearly everyone who ever built the old MLRS kit. I’m doing something completely different. It’ll involve this kit:

I wish Foreart would issue a small kit of like 4 extra pods, otherwise we are scavenging the earth looking for old DML Dragon M270 kits for pods…..

Can you believe I used to give them away? But you’re right - I think they’d be a big seller.

Meng seems to have the knack for add-on / supplements. And I think they would sell.
