Question on AH-60 DAP

I have the Academy AH-60L kit in my stash and look for a model of the M230 Chaingun and the ammo feed. So any infos on the helo itself and the armament options will be great.

I guess you mean MH-60L :

Same gun on a UH-60L used in the Black Hawk Down fight in Somalia.

H.P.

First off, as Frenchy noted, it is an MH-60L DAP. AH-60L is a misrepresentation by Academy. There is no AH-60 in the US military, they are all MH-60s with the MH meaning Multi-mission Helicopter as used by special ops units, specifically the 160th SOAR (Special Ops Aviation Regiment) in the US Army as the model depicts.

As to the armament options, all the ones in the kit are possible, along with the M230 Chain gun. For the chain gun, there was one available in resin by Cobra Company, who was sold to Lone Star Models, so I don’t know if it is still available.

There is also the chain gun and full ammo box, feed chute, and mount for it in the 1/35 Kitty Hawk MH-60L kit.

Thanks Gino!

Sprue F from the Kitty Hawk MH-60L kit has all the gun, ammo can, and mount parts. The feed chutes are on the PE fret.

The F sprue is for sale on eBay. You also get a bunch of extra weapons and other parts.

How do Academy Blackhawk kits compare to Kitty Hawk? Back in 2001 I saw UH-60L during an exercise in Germany, flying an air assault for a river crossing.

Kitty Hawk is generally more accurate, but you’ll have to work for it. Biggest problem with Kitty Hawk is fitting the interior into the fuselage halves. Fit is not good and leaves noticeable gaps.

But Kitty Hawk doesn´t make a UH-60 L?

These are the ones I’m aware of:
MH-60L Black Hawk (Kit KH50005)
HH-60G Pave Hawk (Kit KH50006)
SH-60F Ocean Hawk (Kit KH50007)
MH-60R Seahawk (Kit KH50008)
SH-60B Sea Hawk (Kit KH50009)
MH-60S Knighthawk (Kit KH50015)

Zimi has all of the molds now, and plans a few
different models.

So I will better wait. Thanks Rob. Meanwhile I can concentrate on improving the Panda/DML UH-1D.

No, but it is a pretty easy conversion/backdate. You only need to modify a few parts, leave a few parts off and swap out an Academy pointy stabilator to make a UH-60L out of their MH-60L kit. Werner’s Wings also has a conversion set.

Yes, if you want to buy two kits to make one, that’ll work. I may have a leftover “pointy stabilator” though. I would have to look through my spares.

Thanks Rob, but it´s not urgent. :slightly_smiling_face:
