G’day all
Slowly working my way through a Dragon Tiger 1 mid, which comes with a metal barrel. I have a few of Dragon’s Tiger kits but can’t remember how I’ve tackled this before (those kits are packed away in a storage shed).
Anyhoo…my question regards the attachment A9 which fits over the notched end of the breech end of the barrel. Does it glue to the outside of parts A4 & A23 with the notched end inside or is it supposed to be wedged inside when A4 & A23 are glued together? I have dry-fitted the set-up with A9 inside & there’s no way I can see that working - unless I’ve ballsed something up.
It is supposed to be inside them. These kits were designed with a recoiling gun, and A9 is what prevents the gun barrel from simply falling out. They used to give you a spring for it.
I’ve never built one of these kits, but looking at the instructions on Scalemates makes me think: can’t you just glue the barrel in place without part A9?
Yeah, I suppose that could be done.
It would necessitate knowing the length of that portion of the barrel (either to the very end of the muzzle brake or to the point where the barrel enters the muzzle brake) that extends beyond the mantlet - @DByrden?
A9 is convenient for putting the barrel at the correct position. A9 should normally be as far forward as possible, when trapped inside the other parts.
Looking at the instructions, A9 sits at the front of A23. So glue the gun shield, A23 etc. together, then just line up the notch in the rear of the barrel with the front transverse bit of A23.
Or, as suggested above, work on A9 a little so it fits.
Edit:
Looking at the assembly diagram the problem seems to be a height issue.
If the open side of A9 faces sideways will the closed sides interfere with A23 and A4?
What happens if the open side of A9 faces upwards into A4 as shown in the assembly diagram?
The outside of A9 needs to be sanded down to remove all flash and reduce the diameter slightly
