I was a Platoon Sergeant with B Company, 1/64 from 1999 to 2004 - I am sure we saw each other running PT at some point! Quick question - did a bunch of tanks pass you on the road to Baghdad near Najaf then cut across the road in front of you? I remember passing an MLRS Battery somewhere near there.
Yes, were were setting up to fire into Karbala when you guys passed by heading that way. We were usually behind the lead TF so we could get the most range forward.
The Lowe pack that you’re talking about, was that also known as the CFP-90? I acquired one of those long ago one of our riggers. Great for basic humping, terrible for jumping or patrolling.
That makes sense, we had been attached to 3rd BDE and then met back up with 1-64 and 2 BDE at Rams. We were last in the order of march and had gotten tangled up with the trains and other units, our lead was in contact across Highway 8 and we were trying to catch up and get in the fight. Rock of the Marne
I have no idea. We just called it the Lowe ruck.

This thing… tall, internal frame, detachable small assault pack clips on over the top flap, bottom portion has a zipper compartment.
Isn’t that the pack that was first shown ca. 1989 as part of an (almost) entirely new line of personal equipment for the US Army? I remember an article in a defence industry magazine about that, and I think it shows this type of pack.
I was actually issued that pack by the Air Force before going over to Iraq. It sat under my bunk the entire deployment. I still have it, my unit didn’t want it back. It’s almost like new.
Probably. The Load Bearing Vest appeared around the same time. It replaces the LCE suspenders, magazine and first aid pouches. A lot of guys didn’t like the LBV, but I did.
Possibly. Like 18bravo said, we only ever called them Lowe packs. I don’t recall what the line item on the CIF records listed them as. The very early Gen I Lowe packs actually had “Lowe” embossed on all of the snap button heads just like the civilian versions. I’d have to drag out my old Gen II pack to check its snap fasteners to see if they’re also marked “Lowe.” I never saw one made from Woodland Camo until the picture in this thread. Just looking at the picture, though, it appears identical in detail to the solid green-brown Gen II pack.
Those are pretty much crap - low end packs for college students who want to look like operators.
It’s a spammer: somewhat odd name that looks like it could be real, member since six days ago, exactly two posts on the whole forum which both link to a site selling military-style backpacks and one of them is a necropost.
Which is why I’m calling him out. This is not the place to advertise crap.
I already contacted a moderator about it this morning.
