Questions on the M113A3

I wonder what are the key features of the M113A3? What are the differences compared to the A2?

I’m no expert when it comes to anything really, but i looked into this kit a little while ago and found this

It shouldn’t be too difficult to fix the corrections, but for me it seemed way to difficult so i moved into a different project

The main external difference is the A3 (US version) has the external fuel tanks. They also have added armor plates on the front of the hull and attachment points (small bolt holes) on the hull sides and front for adding ERA blocks.

You can see the small bolt holes on the hull sides well here.

On the inside, the A3 has a steering yoke as opposed to laterals and has sliding Kevlar spall liners down both sides. It also has an upgraded engine and transmission, along with a few other internal changes that can’t really be seen.

One exception in the US Army is the M981A2 FIST-V. It is an A2 with laterals and the external fuel tanks, along with other changes to be an FA observer vehicle.

The IDF also used external fuel tanks on their M113A2s with laterals.

A straight M113A2 has the fenders over the rear idlers.

Does anyone know what the lugs are for?
Is belly armor a standard feature for an A3?
