R35 Diorama "Getroffen!"

Hi guys!

This is my first post here, so I’m a new member!

I want to share my latest project with you: a 1:35 scale diorama featuring a Renault R35 knocked out by the Germans.

The scene depicts the tank commander chilling in a moment of “peace” after the engagement, smoking a cigarette.

Being my first diorama after many years of standby, I tried experimenting with some simple techniques, focusing mainly on the post-fight atmosphere.

I started with the Tamiya R35, adding cast textures to the turret and chassis, Friulmodel tracks, and a tow chain. For the painting process, I applied a base coat followed by color modulation on the standard French Green, then moved on to the classic chipping process.

All the weathering was done using real dust applied to the diorama and the tank with a fixer; I didn’t use any pigments, only washes and Abteilung 502 oils.

After that, I started working on the diorama base and the figure. For my first time using EPS, the result was decent—nothing special, but it helps add to the overall atmosphere of the scene.

I’m happy with the final result… of course, this was my first attempt at a serious approach to scale modeling, so it’s nothing too special, but you know what? We’re here to share and to learn!

I hope you find this little diorama interesting, and I wish everyone a great modeling session!

Welcome to the site Vittorio! The tank came excellent, the weathering very realistic! The figure looks great too as does the ground work.

Will you be adding anything to the scene? I only ask because there is some empty space along side the tank and in front of the figure. At any rate, an excellent job!

Hi Metalhead, thanks a lot for the appreciation  !

This was my first serious attempt in the diorama world, so I tried to do something basic. I didn’t add too many things to it because I was focused on creating a more “silent” and “melancholic” feel to the atmosphere of the dio.

Anyway i agree with you , I’m planning to experiment more with my next project, but for this one, I wanted to focus on mastering the core techniques.
