Italeri has re-released the 1:72 scale Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete with a new set of decals
Will they follow with a 1/32 version?
Cool. I’ve missed this the last few times they issued it.
Decal sheet seems curious. Is it just me or are the wing insignia missing something on the 101 Gruppo option?
No, it is not just you. I too was curious. I did some research on the 238th squadron and came across a post on this italian modelling site ( for reference ) Il Reggiane Re.2002 238-4 e la M.O.V.M. Magg. Giuseppe Cenni: alcune riflessioni
You can see a photo in black and white of the same wing insignia without the fasces. The explanation as to the reason why given on that site is that a directive by telegram was issued that the fasces be removed because some / all ? of that squadron had switched sides when the Italian armistice was declared, and I can only assume, this was before the formation of the Italian co-belligerent air force under the allies and the red/white/green roundel was adopted as can be seen in the C version on the decal sheet the 239 squadron dated 1944 - note the darker green painted over the base green - I assume this was to cover the regia aeronautica markings.
Aha! That explains it, wasn’t sure if it was an error on Italeri’s part or something else.
Will have a proper read of the article later, looks interesting.
Thanks
