For my Dynamo 25mm.
Thanks
Humbrol French Artillery Olive……except I don’t think it’s made anymore.
Sorry Dan I was just joking. Nothing in the instructions?
Now, I know this will sound a bit mad, but I recall that amongst the Humbrol Enamel range was a set of colours called “Authentic Colours” and these were meant to be the most accurate colours of the day. One of these was, “French Artillery Green”; I sadly have no idea if this was aimed at Napoleonic modellers or for more 20th century applications, but I noticed over the years that it became the default setting (enamels being more or less the only paints one could get) for WW2 US Olive Drab.
Anyway, I’m fully aware that this doesn’t help much; so on a more pragmatic note, one has to assume that amongst the paint colours available for the camouflage schemes for French Army AFVs of the period there must be a colour within those, that would have been applied as a base colour to anything that wasn’t an AFV, if you see what I mean.
I’m afraid I don’t quite know what is out there, but I do know that manufacturers do produce sets of colours for certain periods, so amongst, say, something called “Early French WW2 colours” there must be something within that would be appropriate.
I’m sure someone on the site will chime in with more accurate information soon.
I have this French 75mm field gun in 1/35 scale from IBG models. Here’s what the instructions have as the color:
You would think I would look there before I asked here…
I’ll look at them later but am always leary of instructions call outs.
Thanks much
Sorry I posted the same pic twice. I don’t know what other manufacturers equivalents would be but it’s a starting point. On the box art it appears as though there is a darker green applied over the olive color in a wavy pattern.
Good luck Dan!
Yes one can never be 100 percent sure of the color recommendations in kit instructions.
Here’s the kits recommendations-Atom paints
I’ll have to see if I can a conversation chart for Atom.
I happen to have a tin I purchased last year — genuine old stock. I could see about matching it to other colours I own from other paint manufacturers.
French Artillery Green was the go to for Australian modellers that wanted Australian Lusterless Olive Drab. It was almost a perfect match. So you could try one of SMS’s paints if they are available over there Dan:
Thank you, if not, now I know of a good match.
Here is the Atom color that is recommended-quite green.
50/50 mix of Tamiya Olive Green, and Olive Drab, with heavy dusting! When in doubt - improvise!
I’m trying to figure out a base color-I’ve never built a French Artillery piece before.
Thank you, now I know that Vert Olive is my starting color. The Atom paint recommended is very GREEN.
