Another insane dream of Nazi Germany. A 3 Meter/10 foot railway across Europe.

I hear about it before… There is a railway station in todays western Poland, which was supposedly prepared for that project…
I guess if Hitler would be able to concentrate on smaller and doable projects, he wouldn’t start a World War, would he?
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

1/35 scratchbuilding time!!!
Track width will impact the minimum radius for curves.
There is a reason that many railroads in hilly landscapes are narrow gauge,
a 3 meter track width requires larger curves.
Don´t you think that a 3 meter railway from Berlin to Moscow would have build straight with no curves? Organisation Todt or the Reichsbahn could move mountains.
Image one of the huge track building machines for 3 Meter Spurweite.
That would be quite far in the future. It was pure (force labor driven) manual labour at the time…
The terrain between those two cities isn’t known for being “complicated” or full of obstructions.
A straight line would probably work, just stay clear of swamps and marshlands.
If you have a need to move a lot of material and people between central Europe and far east Asia, a super railroad could make sense. If the cost per ton of material per unit distance is low enough, it could beat out other transportation systems. I doubt that would be the case, but a somewhat more modest gauge might work. It seems no more ambitious than building the United States freeway system, digging the Panama Canal, or tunneling under the English Channel.
But somedays, the tracks/sleepers/ballast have to be replaced. Remember, it was Tausend-jähriges Reich.

Since they also had plans to lay a track to Rome and Madrid, mountains needed to be scaled/crossed in the end!
That would get difficult …
Paris could be reached across reasonably level terrain through the Netherlands and Belgium but the Massif Central and the Pyrenées would be obstacles on the way to Madrid.
Rome is totally “protected” by the Alps.
Crazy fool thought he could conquer and keep all of Europe …
