I have what i consider to be a unique problem. I bought an ammo mig king tiger that is essentially a repackaging of a Takom kit. The kit had most pieces of the lower hull but no turret. I scavenged eBay and found a Takom turret sprue set. When it arrived it had zimmerit already in it. Is it possible to remove the molding or is this something that I’ll just have to texture over it then sand it?
My gut feeling is that if you just sand down the molded-on zimmerit your parts would be undersized. I could be wrong. I very often am.
@Tommi_Lukkarinen i do have a sander so that’s an option. I could always do like the Gruppe Fehrmann and have a half zimmerit tank and the rest of it be chipped off the hull at a few places
The other option is to add Zimmerit to the hull, of course.
@Jakko i thought if this as well, maybe a very chipped hull zimmerit to make it a late war version.
Humm. Sanding will eventually provide you with nice smooth sides and gun mantlet. Any correct texture, welds, etc.… would be gone. Me, I might just order just the Tamiya turret from Tamiya USA and call it a day. It comes without zimm. I say the Tamiya turret because you can order just the pieces you need from them. If you found a used kit, just strip the paint and you are good to start again.
For just the turret sprue on eBay.
There are other manufacturers turrets, but I do not know if you can get them separately from the kit itself.
@TopSmith thank you, i know there’s an occasional seller on eBay that has parts but it starts to add up. I’ll try the tamiya route if anything.
