a family member is thinking about getting me the Revell 1/700 USS WASP for Christmas and as I have never built a ship (armour & sci-fi usually) i was wondering what your thoughts are about this kit?
Thought you meant WWll Wasp. Here are some reviews for new Wasp:
Reviews appear German, but they are translated.
Looks like a so-so model.

I really enjoyed it as a learning tool. The docking bay is interesting to understand. I added F-35Bs and left off the Harriers as trying to modernize as I learned more. Please be prepared to be sucked into the 700 scale equipment and upgrade rabbit hole!
@Biggles50 @amoz02t yeah I should have mentioned it was the modern version. I might have a look on YouTube as there is usually someone reviewing a kit so they might do one for the modern USS WASP.
Well according to Scalemates it is a 2001 tooling and has been reboxed by Revell 4 times.

The artwork in the instructions suggest you’ll need to replace the CH-53 and Ospreys, it’s a waterline kit (no lower hull) and has the option of CWIS or SeaRAM so check your references for which is relevant for the year you are building.
You’ll need Pitroad or Gold Medal for the photo etch and I think L’Arsenal do the tiny resin aircraft, order from L’Arsenel before a few times - not the quickest but the stuff is fairly - very good and does arrive. Just remember he is a one man band.
Gold Medal are now part of Squadron so you’ll need to order from them.
