Have you ever had one of those kits/builds when you finally get it on the display shelf you’re like “Thank heaven that’s over with”? Of course you have! We’ve all had those builds. This was one of those builds:
The plan was to build it as a 1969 Camaro Z/28 RS, just like the box says. Box stock build, no big deal, right? Well, while looking for inspiration photos online, I discovered that the kit seems to be a strange amalgamation of a standard Camaro, an SS Camaro, an RS Camaro, and a Z/28. Granted, I’m no Camaro expert, but I was more than a little confused. Since the regular grill was in the box, I decided to use that & just build a Z/28. Don’t really care for the RS headlights anyway. Exterior color is Rust-Oleum Hunter Green (closest I could get to GM Fathom Green in a rattle can), and the interior is DecoArt Hauser Medium Green. Goodyear tire logos, Bowtie center caps, “Camaro”, “Camaro by Chevrolet”, Z/28, “302” hood badges, dash gages, side vents, & marker lights are from Ray’s Kits Decals. 1969 Rhode Island plates are from the Internet.
I swear this is the same model! Lighting can do fully things. Managed to get the engine to stay in after the fourth try!
Interior. Wood grain decals are from the bed decal from the 1941 Chevrolet A/K Pickup kit with a little Tamiya Clear Orange X-26 brushed over the top. Replaced the steering wheel from one from the spares bin. “Camaro” badge, shift gate, and wood paneling around the shifter from Ray’s Kits Decals.
It’s not perfect, but it’s done! Might add an antenna at a later date.
Jim
