RFM Challenger 2, OOB, Berlin Camo’, Finished!

That wouldnt be hard to do Jim, its just one of the FIBUA houses at Copehill Down.

They are just concrete breeze block builds and window openings with the grey metal shutters. The roofs are the fabricated metal ones that look like tiles.

Hi!

The two pictures are taken from www.

Regarding these, I would guess that it is possible that the former colour of these vehicles was green/sand as used on Salisbury Plains training area or BATUS.

From a contact to the unit about 2 years ago I heard that the vehicles had been refurbished/repainted at least once since their first paintjob in Berlin cam.

It’s been over painted in the urban scheme on top of the OPFOR cam from one of the UK based wagons who play enemy on SPTA. You can see that wagon in lots of other images from SPTA and it’s in pristine condition. I am actually genuinely shocked it looks that rough though. There must be a reason for it to be in that condition, although it escapes me… Wagons just aren’t left to get in that state…

Excellent pics and info Andreas. Looking at the reg’, that’s actually the same wagon as in my last pic in front of the building! Looks like there is much more scope for distressing the finish than I ever thought Curt @cabasner .

Yeah John @Johnnych01 it does seem rather extreme for the paint to get so bad, although maybe the finish has been blasted/scrubbed back in preparation for the refresh Andreas mentioned, removing the weakest sections.

All very interesting for anybody wishing to attempt this scheme, excellent!

Hi guys…and let me continue to say thanks for the ongoing info everyone keeps adding to this thread…would it be a safe assumption to make that the specific tank that shows up in multiple photos that has 3 stripes on the bore evacuator is the same tank? I note, however, that the last photo above with 3 stripes on the evacuator has 2 white stripes around the end of the barrel, whereas the side view that Johnny posted of a 3 stripe evacuator tank (the side views with the fully mud covered wheels, idler and sprocket) has what appears to be 3 stripes around the end of the barrel. Probably not the same vehicle, right??

By what I can make out 42AA has the 3 and 3 white stripes, 67AA has the 3 and 2 stripes.
And as Jim @iwatajim said Andreas image shows the same tank as in Jim’s last image in front of the FIBUA building but this image has no white stripes at all, as do some of the other images of 67AA in the thread further back.
And I have to keep going back to the state of the wagon … That isn’t normal paint wear. It’s usually hard wearing and that has been blasted away in certain areas. The thermal sleeve front is practically sand cam and turret front LH is almost totally gone as well…Jim may be onto something in that it is due a renewal and it’s just waiting to go back ?

If you thought the BB camo was tough try this:

took the modeller 4 days apparently.

That is never going to be appearing on my bench lol …

It does break the turret up well though when viewed from an angle … and yeah … it does look good like that

Now that’s impressive! I hope he is getting the help he needs after that!!

I’m missing working on BB camo, it’s like running a marathon, you say never again straight after, but as time goes by you forget the pain.

I see an Amusing Hobby Badger in my future…

If you miss it that bad Jim, I have a possible super secret mission you could do and amaze everyone … is the interest flickering ???

Not such a masking challenge but personally I find it uncomfortable to look at.
By design perhaps?

I think its more of a conceptual one than a proper working one (cam scheme)… it certainly isnt very pleasing to the eye …

I mean, to be fair it does break up the silhouette quite effectively, but you just need to shoot at the bit of the environment that makes you feel like throwing up!
