Been interesting watching your build thus far Johnny as I have the Takom T-55AD Drozd and T-55AM2B kits in the stash, so interesting to compare.
Anyway looking good so far.

The Ivan’s do like a busy turret. Go for the light blue scheme. Goes really well with a light sand and black. Also looks good with a light green and light sand. Think I have photos of both somewhere on here but too lazy to look for them.
Coming along nicely mate. Does the black cabling come with the kit? I built Trumpeters T90SA a few years back which has the aircon unit and it doesn’t come with any cables or even a plan of where they go!
Is it possible that the hinge for the sight aperture door is rotated 180 degrees from what it should be in your last photo ?
Cheers mate ….yeah, the cables come with the kit thankfully …
On the instructions it has it positioned away from the door in one shot like you say, but it all the rest its flush against the door, same as in this image I found.
The RFM T-55 is a great kit. It also has the internal fittings that give me the impression that an interior kit will come soon.
I hope RFM will come of with other variants (*Cough* ENIGMA *Cough*) or any of the Chinese variants.
Looks very nice
what green did you use ? And you’re right about the internal bits …. a full interior kit soon wouldnt surprise me at all.
I used AK REAL COLOR Protective Green 4B0 (RC876 in the new formulation).
Thanks Reynier
…..
And the turret is now complete
Search light and MG were last parts to go on.
Will make a start on the tracks next.
I would qualify that as a “busy” turret ![]()
That turret looks the dog’s John. The Russians never retire a tank, they just bolt more crap to the turret! Look at the T-90!
“Busy” is correct. That’s a lot of stuff bolted on that one.
That’s really flown together, are you doing anything other than building? ![]()
Lol ….. since I left, a lot of dog walking and I fell into a job as a night porter at a 5 star hotel near me …. It’s an absolute gift of a job, and with both pensions it takes me just over the 54k a year so I don’t get screwed to much on the higher tax…. Will probably only do it for under 12 months until we find a place to buy… but I certainly have had some extra time to play with😁
If you can afford a lower bank payment and have started a workplace pension then I would consider upping your pension contributions as these are taken prior to tax and so you are taxed on the remainder. I’m in a similar position and pay more into my workplace pension which drops me below the upper tax bracket. This also increases my employers contributions (they are now at their maximum) and any pay rises I have are automatically paid into pension. If I don’t see them I never miss them.
Night Porter? Nice job! It’s funny how no matter how much “extra time” we’re given (being retired) we always encounter things that take up our free time! Whether we want it to or not. My daughter has gone back to work so I am now grandson - watching FIVE days a week. I’m not sure how I solely got assigned this task, aside from that the boys are very fond of me, but up until Saturday I hadn’t gotten to the bench in 6 months! I had to dust it off. I was all settled into retirement, with all my affairs in order, and along come grandsons. They are now 4 and 6, so I’ve got years to go. They are still a little too rambunctious for models. Trying to find bench time? There’s always a phone call, or an email, that asks me to do something for someone. Ah well, the best laid plans, as they say. I’m trying to establish a daily schedule that doesn’t interfere with dinner to eek out an hour a day for the bench. So that’s my day,and I know yours. Sorry for the tangent John. Keep building this T-55 is coming along brilliantly!
No problem mate …. It’s good you get that time with your G-kids, some nice quality family time ![]()
Managed to get one track run complete. It’s a straightforward process and the time consuming part is cutting the links from their sprue. I managed to get that done fairly cleanly so there was hardly any clean up needed.
Track run, pins, jig and the links.
Should be able to get the 2nd run finished once I get car back from MOT….
Looking very good. Clean build. Anxious to see it under paint.![]()

What colors have you decided to go with?
leaning towards the blue with the green and light sand ![]()
