RFM T55AMD Drozd

I obviously missed this very nice build. Congratulations Johnny!

I’m eager to see it with some paint on.

Decided on the paint call out…vehicle cam will be full AK RC (old range) with detail painting from various brands.

AK 073 Protective 4BO for green. AK 100 Russian grey green for the sand/earthy colour and a mix of AK 235 Intermediate blue mixed with some AK 252 ghost grey

I may change the Russian grey green to AK095 Sinai grey or AK096 early sand yellow.

Had a slight set back with painting. Just about to start only to find the AK 4BO protective had almost run out, so ordered that and the Modern Russian Green which had also ran out and these are the new larger bottles…should be here Wed. Looking at the sandy colour, I am now leaning a bit more to the Sinai grey but will revisit that when the new paints arrive.

Paints arrived so the Protective 4BO is on as a base coat.

The AK RC 17ml bottle range is just as great as the old glass bottle stuff, same quick dry time and nice flat hard finish.

Decided on the old glass bottle AK RC IDF early sand yellow 096 for the earthy colour and will do that next.

Very nice and clean build. Congratz! I have Gunze 4BO Modulation Set, very useful for creating highlights. Please, do some of them

Btw - this is my first post here. Hello to all!

Welcome to the collective hive A_H, and nice that you chose this thread to dive in. There are a lot of very knowledgeable builders here who will help out with anything you need to know, or things that you can pass onto others.

Thanks for the supportive words regarding the AMD, and its progress - I hope you enjoy the finished kit when its done.

Very happy with how the AK IDF early Sand yellow looks as the earthy colour for the cam.

There were a few small areas of over spray but those will get covered by the light blue/ grey that goes on next. Will mix the light blue later with AK RC (old bottle) intermediate blue and light ghost grey.

Update…… tracks are based coated in flat black, drying off, and the blue/grey AK mix is now on.

Overall, very happy with the tone I mixed up, and how the 3 tone cam looks.

What I am not happy about is the unbelievable amount of paint lift I had from the green and sand colour, it’s going to take a bit of touching in to sort it all out, and you can see a fair few areas in the shots below…

Once I get that done and the tracks painted with a coat of Tamiya dark iron, I will start the onerous task of detail painting bits and bobs…….

As you can see, a few areas of paint lift, which is odd, as I’ve never had it before, but hey ho….. its all part of the fun :see_no_evil_monkey:

Eww. Sorry to see your paint lifting John. Fantastic camo scheme though. Looks great.

No major update, but things are progressing…. Bench time was hit with work and normal day to day hindrances.

Touch up painting is done, recovery cables on (which needs touch painting) and wheel rubbers are painted.

Will hopefully get tracks sorted over next few days with pics to follow.

I don’t think this calls for a heavy weathering, so will concentrate on a pin wash and subtle weathering on certain areas.

Very nice and eye catching painting. I wouldn’t say camouflage there. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Many thanks Oliver, your input is always always appreciated..:+1:

I did enjoy putting these colours down, as it’s probably the only time I will ever paint a tank partially blue, which does seem to work for some strange reason.

The combination is strange but looks good :+1::+1:

My T64 in a similar scheme.

Lovely faded look. It really suits it like that.

Can’t remember where but I did actually see the blue in a tri color scheme on a real vehicle. Unfortunately I did not save the photo. I’ve used it with several other color combinations. Strange how it seems to work.
