Relatively new to ship modelling, I am currently tackling a 1/350-scale Type VII C4/1. Can anyone enlighten me as to the purpose of the cables running along the length of the vessel (from bow to front of conning tower, and from rear of conning tower to stern).
Thanks,
Paul

Re: my earlier question, I have found what I think is the answer … originally designed to prevent anti-submarine nets from wrapping around the conning tower, and later used as antenna cables.
Sounds feasible.

Which model Type Vll are you building? IMHO AFV is the best!
They are antenna cables. In the photo you can see the insulators and also the lead wire which goes to the insulated connection on the front of the ‘Turm’, or Tower.

Love the crew’s Panama hats…were they on vacation? Day tours of Caribbean ports?

Biggles50,
The model I’m building is the Revell 1/350-scale ‘Type VII C4/1’.
It’s fairly basic in certain areas, but adequate for my needs.
As I mentioned earlier, ship modelling isn’t my forte, so at least
I can cut my teeth on this one before I move onto something in
a larger scale.

AFV is not only very well detailed (the plastic) it also contains lots of PE for railings, gun shields, etc, and the cable/antennas (be REALLY careful not to kink these!) Revell makes some nice Uboats in both 1/144, and 1/72 scale, but they also need PE, and resin enhancement!
