getting closer to the dreaded upper wing/struts assembly

I had to give up on this model, maybe a better man than me can complete this poorly designed exceptionally frustrating model. Problem is the interplane struts especially the cabane struts made from soft plastic that snaps easily. I went to Great lengths to get this to work, fully painted it and even bought a second model to replace broken parts. Replicating the struts with wood or metal etc. Is not acceptable to me since I don’t think they replicate the kit part. I’ve never had such a bad experience with a model but hey it is just a plastic airplane and Life goes on right now on to my 1/32nd stuka build and what a pleasure that has been after working on this nightmare.
It was looking good with the paint on.
Too bad it’s such a bad experience.
I never dared to tackle a WWI Bird. Maybe one day, but not this kit for sure.
I have to wonder how much people looking at the rigging on most WWI aircraft and thinking about trying to duplicate it on a model contributes to the popularity of the Fokker Dr.I, since it was structurally stiff enough not to require interwing bracing wires.
I had heard that Ming and Roden had purchased the molds. And their offerings were based on the WNW old kits.
Most likely a rumor.
I have 2 kits, but I go back and forth if I should build them or make them part of my estate.
The Meng Fokker Dr1 is rumoured to have been a WnW projects and the sprue and overall design definitely has a feeling of their kits. I would guess that they have most, possibly all of the tools. With luck we’ll see them come back eventually.
Till then, I managed to get all of the WnW kits I wanted, so I’m good for a while. The only kit of theirs I wanted was the Brisfit, but I’ve got Eduard’s 1/48 and that’s a fantastic kit as a cheaper and easier to find alternative.
Personally, I say build them! Just in case you never get the opportunity to.
Don’t feel bad Roden Kits are notoriusly tough kits. They have a kit and can’t remember which one but not an old kit that from what I have read the engine will not fit into the model. I have built a few Roden kits, and everyone has had its challenging moments. A lot of plastic card, putty, recutting, shaving and patience. I recently completed the 1and1/2 Strutter using Aviattic decals and upgrades and it went together pretty easy, but I have thrown a few kits out myself over the years.
