Will do it’s called the shortest Gap because we always cross the shortest gap.
I have a lot of registration numbers and pictures .
It’s is mainly about the AVRE from conception in ww1 to Trojan
With three sappers heavily involved Martel, who formed the first armoured type engineers with mk5 at Christchurch 1918 to LT Deanovan Canadian RE who designed the Churchill AVRE which then was fitted with a Petard , His version was used to great success in ITALY in a close support role different to those in NWE. Finally to my dear friend Capt Clegg who designed the Willich AVRE and still involved .
also a brief history of there uses. To cover all the other Armoured engineer equipment we have used in the past would be huge , from Mine Flails, Bridgelayers to ARKs just to name a few but i may try and cover some of them .
Basically, there is a hole at each end of each pipe. The required number of pipes are then threaded onto a chain, one chain each side and when the right number of pipes are in place, the whole thing is pulled tight and each end secured with clips. Looks like a spliff rolling mat on a big scale.
Then you pick up both ends with a HIAB or crane, join the ends together, stuff the gap with the right amount of loose fascine pipes and then a string net is clipped over each side to stop the loose pipes falling out.
Close up of the plastic pipe fascine used on Chieftain AVRE. You can see the chain running through the outer pipes holding the bundle together and the fixing of the net to hold the inner pipes.
Also there is a class 70 trackway fixed onto the hamper of a Chieftain AVRE industrial version.
