Most interesting Brian- thank you for explaining. I can just picture some poor guy or gal having to sit typing out in the tent on a cold, windy day!

'Glad it all makes sense; the thing is, one could be quite comfortable. Cold was always the enemy so we used to deploy with kerosene heaters, but as I found out, they needed wicks, and kerosene, and that had to be indented for and as at the time, I knew nothing at all about any of this, it all became a bit of a mare. The other staff branches seemed to be flourishing and there I was, struggling far more than I felt I should have been. I was only 17 and knew almost nothing or so it seemed.
Mind you, I’m surprised we never succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning given the toxic fugs those tents lent themselves to.
