Rye Field Models 1/35 T-34/85 Model 1944

Hey lads! Sharing my latest completed work, Ryefield’s T-34/85

I’ll be honest, this isn’t my finest work…
Won’t take eagle eyes to see why either, I reckon.
I’m considering giving it another try some day, either this kit or another T-34/85. I’m not very satisfied with this boy…
But, anyway, that’s all!
Cheers!

Nice build! I like the weathering and how you added straps to hold the grousers and spare track links.

Looks pretty good to me! We always have a critical eye for our own work

Thanks!
Yeah, I took inspiration from war thunder haha, I thought adding straps will make it look better, some khaki breaking up the black and green!

Aww thanks!
Yeah I don’t know… Just didn’t feel this one, also made some construction mistakes. Who knows, maybe I’ll keep it.
Either way, thanks!

Is there something that could not be fixed other than the I’m not feeling it?

Yes, haha
Most are minor stuff that don’t ruin the look just imperfections I dislike, like some of the wheels just not getting cemented right (I must say, I hate non poly cap wheels, like these:)

So something went wrong and the end connectors or whatever you want to call them just didn’t hold on, so I had to cement the whole wheel shut, making it not move anymore, this happened with a total of 4 wheels.

Also I feel like I didn’t do a good job on the shading, I put too much paint over it so the preshading underneath was drowned out.

The towing cables were a nightmare, and they’re visibly not glued on very well, they’re crooked and uneven and you can see where I cut them badly

But the worst part is, I assembled the idler wheels upside down.
Now, I did that on purpose. I saw that when the thing the idler wheels connect to is pointing down, like it should be, the workable metal tracks I got sagged too much, like, they sagged so much they didn’t even make contact with the sprocket wheel (and what a terrible sprocket wheel the Soviets put on the T-34! No teeth?! Are you kidding me?!) .
And I couldn’t shorten the tracks, because every other link is different so I can only remove two at a time, but removing two made the tracks too short, and…
So long story short I assembled the idler wheel upside down so it sits higher. This worked, the track wrapped nicely, but now the idler is too high up, choking the track against the fenders, making it so the track can’t move, and also it just looks bad (in my opinion).

And a few other small imperfections which really aren’t even worth brining up.

That’s about it! Sorry for the ramble haha

Got you on the pre-shading issues, I to struggle with that. The two different track pieces may explain some of the sloppiness that happens on the 1:1 tank. Yep, I like the polly caps because they are forgiving.

Even amongst modelers like here I bet 90% of the people see none of the so called flaws in our work. I have cut down my modeling interests to only mid east war subjects partly to limit stash size but also because of my love of all things IDF armour related. I definitely don’t consider my self an expert but i still find myself hoding back posting sometimes as I realize not everyone is as much of a bolt counter (pretty sure I have OCD) as I am. I also see how you may be disappointed with your result while others see nothing wrong. I had a model at a show a fair while ago that I almost didn’t even bring because i felt it was trash. It ended up winning the class and one of the judges whom I thought of as someone far above my skill level told me I was crazy for thinking it lol

Some of the flaws you mentioned are not visible like the issue with the road wheels. other items like the paint job, no one else can envision your original concept so they don’t see that it turned out different than you wanted. The only thing anyone could notice was the tow cables or the upside down idler installation, however because the track sets correctly, they probably would not notice unless you pointed it out.
