Scammell Commander Transporter and Trailer

So, now the Phantom is getting close to being finished, I have decided on my next venture into glue sniffing…
The Scammell Commander & Trailer.

Have been contemplating this one for a while. Not sure if it will have a load yet, but never say never.
Once I get close to starting I will do a more comprehensive intro and shots of the many sprues. No AM for this as the only thing I could find was a small PE fret and lights/reflector set, which I don’t think I will need… I may add a few bits to the cab inside, seat belts etc as there is a lot of glass you can look through.

Bloody hell John - good luck with all that, and I mean “all”. What a beast.

I have an irrational fear of such large kits (says he with a Scrooge missile in the stash) but I do have the Sov MAZ transporter - as a result of some strange Warsaw Pact impulse.

It’ll be interesting to see what you do with this one that’s for sure. Good luck(!)

PS: It’s just got to have a load - surely? Trumpeter CRAARV perhaps? Just going for the “Go massive, go early” sort of theme - but never on a Friday night.

Seat covers for the real ones, all stripey

Apparently a finger nail decal covers them.
A few other things aren’t right as well,
Andreas kirchhoff, can supply photos,
he has them on modern British armour sig group.

Need to put colour on my one, inside and out.

Well I did buy the Accurate Armour chain set, so a load is probably going to happen… I have the AS90 and a Cr1 I am going to do as my ride in Germany ( revamped from the one I have but with correct detailing), so it could be either of those…
I did see one in Bovi years ago with a T55 on as well…

This will be something to watch… huge …

That reminds me: in a Tankograd publication from some time ago, there was a brilliant pic of the Faun tank transporter carrying a refurbished Sturmtiger - in its way to or in transit to/from Munsterlager - presumably the museum. The juxtaposition of images will stay with me - the Faun in NATO-flage and the Sturmtiger in sand. Brilliant.

Nice pick John, a massive build. This should be good.

Now THAT would be a very interesting combination. New territory with the T-55 build too.

Great choice Johnny. I love these big tank transporters. I built the Trumpy MAZ some years ago and loved it. Unfortunately I don’t have any shelf space for it yet so it’s still in a large plastic bin on my work bench.

I built the Trumpeter MAZ as the KET-T a few years ago and loved it. I love those Russian 8 wheelers.

I just ordered that one on a Black Friday sale to add to the collection The only problem is the amount of room they take. I did pick a ton of aftermarket stuff up for the M 1070 as I was able to purchase a couple of them from a Would be Internet hobby store that went out of business real quick.

I was actually thinking of creating a group or thread of people building these

Nice; Always wanted to add a Dragon Wagon hauling an Easy Eight Sherman, like this one.

Along with a FAMO 18t prime mover with a Panzer IV.

Johnny you might want to look over on Britmodeller there are a couple of threads on there with the ups and downs of this kit!
It lays them out and there are a few downs😉 here’s one of them.

Hi John,
You might (or might not) find this of some use from ‘Nigel’s Modeling Bench’ YouTube channel.

Thanks guys for the links. I know it has a few issues, but I am not overly worried about them. I did watch a few of the Nigel clips, but to be honest I lost interest after a few.
The one thing I will spend time doing is ready the instructions carefully and if needed, going out of sequence if it makes things easier.
Other major area is the lack of engine which Frank @frank made me aware of, so will look at possible ways round that to get rid of the obvious all the way through gaps you have where an engine would be visible … and I have a few ideas about that already.

I’ll be following this but doubtful I’ll ever build one myself due to it’s size. Oh the joys of sh**ting your pants getting a wagon over the trailer wheel humps, almost as much fun as putting one on the flats.
