Sdkfz 251 Engine wiring and distributor

Back dating Das Werk 1/16 251 D to 1942 251 C. The kit has a fairly good engine compartment with poseable engine hatch. However there is no wiring for the engine spark plugs. I think wiring makes a huge difference to the perception of detail and realism . I’ve found no clear picture of wiring. Only wiring diagrams are schematics that doesn;t show how the wiring are routed. I found a diagram from a Chinese detailing kit that shows the wiring at the back of the dashboard, but no wiring around the engine block.
So I have to make educated guess.

My question is where is the distributor on the 251 engine? I assume the spark plug wires will run in a conduit from distributor to near the the row of spark plugs, and there separate into individual wired to the spark, plugs for each cylinder.

BTW, Das Werk’s instructions appear to have mixed up the intake and exhaust manifolds. It calls for intake manifold to be painted rust color and exhaust manifold engine color, which is backwards.

Hello!
I’m no expert on Maybach HL 42, but I found your question interesting. I made a quick research on google and here is what I found: First thing that gets obvious from the look on the photos is that the sparkplugs of that Maybach don’t sit in the head, but are somehow installed from the underside. The other info I found is that it doesn’t use a distributor - it uses a magneto (not a big difference for the modeller, but worth noting). This way the operation of the motor is not so dependent on the battery (they didn’t trust the batteries back then, and for a reason!). Lastly I’ve found a photo that might probably help you. This one:

If it’s not the same engine, then I hope it’s close. And it makes sense, that they didn’t want too many loose wires on a military engine. As always with ignition wires there’s of course the problem of insulation, insulation failures and sparks flying between the wires or betwen the wire and the metal objects around them…

Anyway - I hope this helps you, good luck with your build and have a nice day
