Wouldn’t the SEA scheme NOT be a tight pattern and have been done hand sprayed?

You could put something thin under the edge to lift the mask a small amount that would give it a soft edge.

Absolutely, but those masks are made to adhere to the surface. Better off copying a scale drawing of the camo color and cut out the pattern and use the edge lift technique.
