I was in a C-47 with those rifle ports in the late '60’s. The crew half jokingly told us they were to let us protect ourselves “from Migs”.

To get moderators attention you could just need to tag them with “@moderators” in a post. You can send a message but that is a little more complicated. You have to start a new topic and change it to a message by clicking the + sign in the upper left of the form pop-up window.
