Where are all the whiners over on FB bashing this kit? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hmm. I saw all the issues with the previous Border kit, but have yet to see what’s in this new box. But I can foresee lots of angst over the term “late M4A1” as that usually gets applied to the big-hatch hulls. This might more reasonably be called a “mid-production” or a “late small-hatch” to avoid the confusion…

Not much mystery tho, it’s the exact thing as the 75mm kit. They just added the appliqué armor on the turret cheek and sides of the hull and the later gun mount, shield, and mantlet. Also it’s going to get the T48 track sprue from the 76mm release. other than that it’s basically the exact same kit as the original 75mm release. If their first two releases are any indication, I wouldn’t hold my breath on the markings for this being any good. But there’s always hope, so hopefully they improved their approach to the decals.

I didn’t mind working with the flaws on the 76mm version, but that suspension was a REAL drag, and this kit is going to feature that suspension again. So this release is just about cashing in on the original mold investment, they are only adding a couple of new things that I mentioned above.

I can’t imagine why anyone would buy this over the fantastic Asuka kit which is available for like $15-20 less here in the US on scalehobbyist.com and that kit includes good markings and a bonus Douglas device hedgerow cutter. You can get a turned barrel for the Asuka kit and still save like $12. By the time you buy decals for this BM kit your spending like $65.

I’m assuming they have a bigger less discriminating audience outside of us “experts” on modelling sites who point out all the flaws! Oh well, it’s not as though there aren’t enough GOOD shermans in my stash, so I’ll save my pennies and swerve this one…

I just referring to your wondering what might come in the box. It’s basically the same release as the 75mm released last year. Having said that, I’m thinking that this version will offer the modeler more flexibility than the original 75mm release.

Yeah. Hard Pass on this one. Border does not know Shermans.

Something I forgot to mention about this kit, which is based on the 75mm release from last year. For some strange unexplained reason, Border Models decided that the 75mm release didn’t need the tow cable and cable clamps included in the 76mm release. The clamps and the cable ends were one of the few highlights in the 76mm release. They weren’t in the 75mm kit and it doesn’t look like they put them on their build of this new release either. The boxart has the tow cable, so hopefully they included it in the box and the built up one simply omitted it by mistake.

Here soon according to hobbyeasy.com, for 35$US, with change

Note the proper spacing of the Applique plates on the M4A1 vs. those on the M4 in the background. The kit photo should not then be used as a reference.
