Awesome Pzr II!

I have to play too! I thought that since I’ve built so many Tamiya kits (and still do) that maybe something I built a long-ish time ago would be appropriate. A few minutes on eBay and a week later I had this:
IMG_4876 by Russel Baer, on Flickr
It’s not a bad kit, and if I recall, I built one around 20 years ago. I have no idea where it ended up, probably given away to a neighbor’s kid. I took a quick peek in the box and kind of chuckled: three sprues and the hull. Me being me and Sprue Brothers having a 50% off sale on a bunch of stuff, there’s a Legends box on the way now too.
I suppose I might get a start on it next week, maybe after the Revell Leo2A5NL I just started is a little further along.

Over the last several days I’ve been piddling around some assembly and more painting. I still intend to give a camo paint job.

And, oh my! I plan to add the figure to the schwimmy. Only my second figure, ever.

Hello everybody! This campaign is an opportunity to see some great and at the same time diverse work!
@TacFireGuru - I like that Schwimmwagen a lot!

I’ve had a lot of things happening, and not all of them pleasant… But finally I was able to post an update here. So I’ve built the body of the Horch - fit was excellent, esprcially for a model almost 50 years old! I’ve painted the top panzergrau with Dunkelgelb stripes, and the bottom tan for dirt, and then I applied some pigments and here’s what it looks like now:

I’ve also built up the driver and tried to paint some sumpftarn pattern. Here’s the result:

Now I’m going to put on the decals and weather it a little more. Hope you like it - thanks for looking, good luck with your builds and have a nice day

Going off my usual track for this phase … I am applying the stowage to the rear decks, and then painting the details after main colour is down. I’m also using green stuff for the first time to try and do some field welds on the jerry can stowage mounts.

And the first attempt at welds. I know there is a lot of room for improvement but I’m happy with them as a first try. I also made a little weld tool like I have seen a few online builders like NightShift use.

And the turret cam net.
The net will get a good soak in a 50/50 mix of PVA and water then draped around the turret sides and over the top of the counter weights. I will then make Hessian strips and add those.

The ‘Pixie’ suit,
Oversuit Heavyweight light khaki-coloured oversuit, features two rows of zipper fastening from throat to ankles & seven external patch pockets. Adjustment tabs are fitted to ankles and cuffs.Internally the suit is lined with khaki wool fabric and is provided with integral support braces. The Pixie suit was developed as a practical & warm garment to be worn inside armoured vehicles over the conventional uniform and adopted from 1943.

Very much so, thanks mate.

Put the cam net around the turret.
Good soak in PVA and water mix.

Once that has cured and set, I will get the OD base coat on, then detail brush paint the cam net and different green shade.

Was wondering, would the M10’s/Achilles have had a textured hull ?

I would think only the transmission cover would be textured and everything thing else is basically steel plates. I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers dude … will start on the TX for now.

Basic texture on the TX cover.

Will add to the hull if needed.

John, you may not use enamels but for the tank suits I used Humbrol 72 - Khaki Drill - which certainly worked for me(!)

Cheers mate. I dont use enamels, but thanks for the steer :+1: … I’m going to do a mix up of xf88 DY 2 as it’s quiet different from the normal XF60, and add some yellow and buff and see what that looks like.

I hope you won’t mind me saying, but as someone who does a bit of 1.1scale ( with MIG rather than the equipment used in welding during WW2) ,your weld bead is a little over scale.Otherwise nice work .

I’ve been up against an M10 at the American Heritage Museum John. The hull and turret are smooth.

Here is an original WWII color photo from the IWM collection for reference

Indeed it is a surprisingly good kit! Like all Tamiya kits it suffers from moulded-on lumps instead of grab handles, and no sponson floors, but the only visible issue is the lack of power cable from the back of the big searchlight to the socket on the turret roof.

Not a problem Dave, I knew they were once I had done them. It was my first attempt at beads as I dont usually bother, but I will refine it for the next time I try :+1:
