Soft sides and doors on M151

Morning all, was just wondering if anybody makes the soft sides and doors for the M 151s? We rarely used the doors, but had the sides on sometimes, to keep stuff dry in the back. Also, was there a difference on them between the A1 and A2? Just a thought. Wayne

Never seen it in my career.

I have not seen any AM soft sides or doors for them. There are armored AM sets that include doors and there is the Academy A2 hardtop version that has doors and sides. You may be able to copy either of these and make a pattern for soft doors and the rear side window parts from one of them.

An extensive search reveals nobody makes these. That would be an interesting and challenging scratchbuild. Seen these many times on CSMs jeeps, and lots on MP jeeps.

You could also resize the below pics to 1/35 and use them as a guide to make the doors and side panels.

An M151A2 with ROPS (Roll Over Protection System) with netting would be cool to.

That does look interesting. I’d make them from flexible packaging plastic, and just mask off the windows for painting. Probably add a bead of brass wire along the edge. Too bad I’m neck deep in other projects.

The August 1978 edition of the TM I have doesn’t distinguish between M151, -A1 and -A2 in the instructions for fitting the side doors and curtains, which I take to mean they’re identical between the three vehicles.

Hi,

I’ve thought about this from time to time. I think that if you make the canvas from the lid of a yoghurt pot and the clear parts from thin, clear, flexible packaging.

As Jakko stated above, no difference in design between M151, A1/A2. Canvas used for initial production runs, followed by heavy duty vinyl coated material. Another way of using the top piece (for greater air circulation) was to take the vertical rear portion and fold it under the supports, so that the tucked-under was a second layer beneath the top.
And, like others, I have not seen any AM soft side curtains or doors, but the simple design (and being very flat) should lend itself to scratching without much work.

Thanks for the replies guys. As I said we rarely used the doors except in the winter down at Ft. Mc Clellan. Never saw them in Nam. I thought I had a picture of one with just the rear sides on but can’t find it now. Wayne
