Soviet K-61 tracked amphibious transporter in 1:35

Hello model makers

After the Armada Hobby Soviet K-61 tracked amphibious transporter kit in 1:72 was introduced recently, I thought about showing this vehicle in 1:35 scale. The model was built from plastic by Skrath. Two SU-76 kits and tracks from Friul were used. I also had the vehicle’s original documents available for the construction. The K-61 was a buoyant troop transporter that was in use until the mid-1970s. The vehicle was then replaced by the PTS-M amphibious vehicle. Here are some pictures.

A great scratchbuild. I always wondered which suspension parts were used. I personally opt for the PTS-M to carry my Ural 375 truck. I wish that someone would release a PTS-M in styrene.

Very impressive scratch build. Is the floor removable and replaceable to show off the details you made under there?

Thank you for your compliments, I’m glad you like the model. Many thanks also to Hans Hermann for the very interesting photo. I’ll now show you a few pictures of how the vehicle designs for amphibious vehicles have increased over the years. I chose the BAW, the K-61, the PTS-M and the PTS-2. The PTS-2 is currently still under construction. Enjoy looking at them.

Yes, I made the loading deck removable so that I can show the interior with the drive. There is usually a driver sitting on the left side, but I removed him to take photos.

The PTS-M is based on T-54/T-55? With some proper references, a scratchbuild should be doable.

You have to say yes and no here. As a model builder, the T-54 and T-55 kits are of no use to you. You can’t use the road wheels or the tracks. You can actually save the money for the kits. I will show these vehicles again in detail at a later date and will go into more detail there. I also had problems with the tracks because they were supposed to be made of metal. Here’s something for size comparison, I forgot the Wolna armored ferry. It was actually supposed to replace the PMP pontoon park and the GSP-55 ferry.

All a timely reminder that the Soviet and Warsaw Pact tactical - even strategic doctrine - was to get over those pesky rivers as quickly as possible - on their way to the Channel(!)

Now photos of the K-61 model from below. I think it’s interesting how it looks. The lower part is also part of a model. Here are the pictures.
