After experimenting with the great painting technique written in the book by Sheperd Paine “How to build dioramas”, I painted this MiniArt set with this technique.
Soviet tank crew 1950s MiniArt 37053
Here you can find the link of the video I dedicated to this set on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3R4ohBUYAs
This MiniArt Soviet tank crew 1950s MiniArt 37053 is the first set of miniatures that I paint with Paine’s technique.
The final result is good, I like it a lot.
These miniatures will be included in a Diorama set in some Eastern European country during the post WWII/Cold War period.
I really like it as the first result of this technique that I have only recently experimented, I hope you like it too.
Have a nice day.

Hey good job on those figures Edoardo. Black is a tricky color to deal with when painting figures and you’ve done very good!

Thanks for the compliment.
Yes, i read that black was a bit difficult to use, and for this i’m happy with the final result as my first attempt.

You did a great job. White can be difficult as well, it all comes down to how you shadow and highlight those colors, each had its own problems.

I think you have done well with these figs Edoardo. As @metalhead85 said black is a tricky color to get right- but luckily it is one of those things that, when you practice, becomes easier.

Thank you very much, now I will continue to paint and experiment to become better and create more and more excellent miniatures

Excellent job. Shading black is really really difficult in making the black leather look real is one of the hardest jobs ever especially in this scale. Nicely done

Looks like a great compliment for an IS-3 tank.

I am very satisfied because I managed to obtain a good result with the black color, which is more difficult

True, it could be an idea, I have a Zvezda IS-3, but I also have a T-55. Now I’ll see which of the two is better.
I personally thought of putting them on a T-55, so as to make a Diorama set in the invasion of Prague in 1968, I’ll also add other miniature Soviet soldiers.
But since I also have the IS-3 tank now I’ll see which of the two is better.
The IS-3 would fit well with the Hungarian uprising in 1956, or the uprising in East Germany in 1953.

A T-54 would be perfect for “Operation Danube” (Prague, 1968)

Unfortunately I don’t own a T-54 model.
But I was lucky enough to find a T-55A (1965 model) from MiniArt at a discount, the model is very good and it is not a Czech, Arab or Polish variant. (So there are no historical consistency issues on this).
So I think it is good for Operation Danube. I did some research on the decals and the type of vehicles used during the invasion of Prague, I saw that a Soviet regiment had this model of T-55A that I have from MiniArt.

Star decals makes a set for that.
