Spanish AML 60 in the 70s

Hello all
I recently finished this tiny armored car by Takom. I built it and painted it as a Spanish Legion vehicle in the Spanish Sahara in the early 70s.
The kit is a good one with minor issues like some huge pouring lugs which sometimes require extra work to clean the parts. The fit is usually good however you need to be careful with the rear boxy parts.
Takom proposes the both versions of this armored car: with twin 7.5 mm MGs and the 60 mm mortar or with a single .50 cal MG and the 60 mm mortar.
To backdate the AML, I just removed the NBC decontamination bottle on the left door (a French only feature). I also modified the searchlight so it is slaved to the weapons and I added the straps for the gap ditching elements (not sand channels as often mentioned) on front of the vehicle.

It is painted in a sand color which is a mix of Tamiya Desert Yellow and Buff. I applied a white filter to give it a sunbleached look. The dust effect is done with various shades of pigments.

Very nice Olivier, finish is really well done.
The turret drills must of been a real nightmare inside that thing, very cramped and trying to figure what weapon was loaded/firing and any misfires…

Cool little vehicle! Nicely done.

Cheers,
C.

Thank you for the comments.
Considering there are only two crew members in the turret they have enough room to move inside and man the weapons.
What should have been a real issue is the vehicle commander who also was the mortar loader sat opposite to the weapon. Not the best way to load the shells into the breech.

Excellent Olivier. Having done their AML 90, I am tempted to do this version too. If only they did an Eland too.

You’re right Peter the Eland would have been a great addition to the series.
