Hence Hoplite formations tended to drift to the right, as each individual tried to get some cover for his unprotected side behind his neighbour’s shield…

Fair enough, each to their own… I just wish he didn’t look as if he was inspired by Tiny Tim singing “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”…
There’s nothing wrong with dynamic poses, although hoplite formations tended to fight in close order. However, Master Box’ hoplites are both dynamic and credible.

No worries, all points taken. I still think the pose is very natural and will make a great vignette of a Spartan commander duelling a Persian immortal for example (or another hoplite officer). There were lot of individual duels described even in formation battles.
