I have an idea and I’m eager to set up a cool (I think) diorama with a “special forces operators in their free time” theme. I already have 6 figures, but I’m waiting for another 5 or 6, plus a couch, chairs, etc. The plan is for the diorama to be outdoors. I’d like to put a pickup truck in there. There’ll be a few Pelican cases. What do you think should be included to make it look good and realistic? I’d also like to add sidearms, MRE boxes, beer, water, ammo boxes, body armor, helmets, etc. I’m planning to have a lot of fun.

Some sort of radio/boom box would be good. Maybe a weight bench with some free weights laying around…
Gatorade….loads of it!
Yes, Gatorade. My alma mater needs the residuals.
How ‘bout them Gators?
Or Monsters/Red Bulls…![]()
Sofa, TV, and a dog…
And rolls of tape. The large grey duct tape, the small black plumber’s tape and medical tape should cover it.
Nice concept! Lots of possibilities.
Cleaning, maintaining, inventorying and doing paperwork (to deploy or redeploy), cooking, or eating…
That many team guys sitting around in a group are going to be doing something productive. You want to take a nap, you’re gonna be in the shade on your bunk or in a hammock. You want to play cards, again, in the shade and probably just the guys actually playing cards. Doing PT, you’ll be doing PT, maybe with a buddy for a spotter. Playing some sort of sports, well, that’s what you’ll be doing - volleyball net, balls, etc.
However, outside with a bunch of gear around, you’ll be doing some sort of scut work that has to get done… cleaning, maintaining, inventorying, or you’re hanging out barbequing and eating (alcoholic beverages maybe, but very unlikely any US consumer brand - beer acquired locally or from one of your allies since US forces are universally prohibited from consuming alcohol when operationally deployed). You might have a “cold one” when you’re doing something like that, but the main object of the exercise is not to drink beer, but to clean guns, clean radios, clean individual equipment, load magazines, sort and inventory kit for the next mission, inventory kit for some change of command or redeployment, packing, unpacking… the list is endless.
When deployed, you really don’t have much “free time,” and when you do, you’re not going to spend it doing “nothing.” There are always priorities of work to be done, and never enough time to do it all.
My drink of choice (and of a few others) was Rip It. We fell in on a metric assload of it, so we never ran out. We did drink Gatorade, but we had to drive two hours through the badlands to a FOB to obtain it. Highly desirable as wide mouth bottle was easy to piss into.
Ha! This has inspired me to CAD this!
I’m going to make it available in 1/35, 1/24, and 1/16 scales.
Currently, working on making that pallet of 24.
With all those drinks, don’t forget coolers (e.g., Coleman, Igloo brands). ![]()
@SdAufKla - Thanks for describing the tactical situation. In that case, there’ll be a BBQ and some “downtime.” Weapons, gear, and other details will serve as small accents. I’d probably have to redesign the miniatures from scratch for the projects you’re talking about, and I don’t want to burden the person who prints them for me any further.
Wow, that might as well be a 24 hour fitness compared to what we had
I’ll award a No Prize to the first dio I see with a bunch of those Gatorade bottles all colored pee yellow inside trucks or scattered about a bivouac area! ![]()
