Yeah… it doesn’t 
I was thinking about why the suction right in front of the 8" fan doesn’t actually feel anything like vaccuum cleaner hose, and I suppose it’s the area of the aperture it’s drawing through.
Maths wasn’t really my strong point, but I know that increases in diameter result in proportionally greater increases in area.
80mm diameter fan aperture area = 8in²
120mm diameter fan aperture = 17.5in²
205mm diameter fan aperture = 49in²
I guess in the days when James Bella was on the site he could have given us the low down on duct size and airflow.

@FirstCircle You’ve got a really big fan there! But I don’t have the luxury of being near a window for full exhaust. I needed my fans to be just strong enough to pull the paint into my filter medium and catch most of the overspray. I use acrylics so noxious fumes isn’t my main concern. Not getting paint mist on my wife’s work (we share the same small room for our “office”) was the important goal. She has already threatened me that she’s going to banish me to the old dilapidated and uninsulated garage that’s 30 below in the winter and 140 in the summer.

Oddly enough I had to get an extractor because I used to paint in our dilapidated and uninsulated garage with the up and over door open, but that’s now been fully converted into my wife’s new office.
I am fortunate that I can position it right by the window and probably only really need it if using lacquers or painting a large area. It is big, but cost about the same as many airbrush paint booths and takes up about the same space.
I also used it to clear the kitchen when there was some serious grill smoke a few weeks ago.

I have a regular Spray Booth with a built-in fan and added a fan assembly from a clothes dryer inline to get even more suction/venting . Being it came from a clothes dryer it’s in a nice squirrel cage assembly and the duct is 4" . Works great .
