SS Rottenfuhrer MG No 1 in greatcoat

Latest finished figure, Tamiya 1/16 to join the “Elite Infantryman” and “Panzergrenadier in Winter Gear”. Once again, all paints Humbrol. He retains the right hand decal on his helmet as they were only ordered to be removed in 1943 and continued to be seen until the war’s end. The left hand national red shield with black swastika on white field was ordered to be removed in 1940 as presumably the bright colours compromised camouflage. In accordance with the SS-Verordnungsblatt No 11 of 1st June 1942, the greatcoat (Feldmantel) has been stripped of its collar patches and cuff title. However he retains his rank chevrons and arm eagle which is not unusual. In fact, he is wearing a Wachmantel or Ubermantel (Guard Coat), a much sought after garment, which is identifiable by the extra lines of stitching above the hem. This is where the blanket lining finished. I have attempted to display the later moulded Bakelite butt to the MG42, which was a reddish coloured plastic.

Lovely work (far better than anything I could achieve). His face really does look chilly!

I am no figure painting expert, but might it be worth adding a darker shade to the slight recess where the right hand comes out the sleeve?

Very, very nice !! I have this kit in my stash already primed and ready to paint. You’ve inspired me to dig this out and get painting!

I have to agree with Chepster though. Just a minor touch up.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Excellent job on that figure!

You’re right. In fact I should have hollowed it out with a Dremel or WHY.

A very finely done piece with plenty of attention paid to the smaller details of the web equipment.
