That makes perfect Army sense - basing V - hulled Strykers 5000 miles from the nearest IED.
These are the radar antennas, these will be probably the hardest part to make.
I believe 3D printing is the way to go
For the IM-SHORAD Stryker, the Hellfires can be Anti-UAV, Anti-Armor, and Anti-Helicopter, giving the SHORAD Stryker a potent versatile punch.
Typically, the SHORAD will carry four Stingers, a 30mm autocannon, possible M240 7.62mm coaxial, and two Hellfires. I donât know if there will be any reloads.
It is one of the few US Army vehicles that carries RADA radars, those circular discs by the turret, so it doesnât all depend on FLIR and TV cameras for aiming as the HMMWV Stingers. The RADA radars can detect targets further out that the 30mm, Stingersâ, and Hellfiresâ range can reach. Perhaps one day the US Army might mount SPIKE NLOS in place of the Hellfires that can reach out as far as the radarâs range.
Any plans to put this system on a tracked vehicle?
There are proposals and a couple demonstrator vehicles by BAE to mount a similar system on the Bradley to bring back the M6 Linebacker system.
Thatâs a lot of height clearance to watch out for! Is that a new suspension system too?
The BAE M6 âUpgraded Linebackerâ looks pretty cool, and it has more features such as FLIR, RADA radars, and Anti-Drone jammers.
I do wonder if the US Army wants to invest in the M6 when it can buy new M2A3 and M3A3 Bradleys to replace those old and worn out. The US Army often doesnât place emphasis on Air Defense Units.
Or, the US Army can build an Air Defense AMPV variant with radar, a few âIron Domeâ launchers, Stinger SHORADS, AIM-9X, and other features that the IM-SHORAD Strykers lack and forgo the manned 25mm Bradley turret.
I now wonder if itâs better to mount a MK38 MOD4 30mm RWS onto an AMPV with a coaxial Stinger pod than building the 25mm M6 Linebacker with Stinger pod. The US Army can achieve this on a AMPV by not having a crew in the M2âs turret and also have an airbursting capability with the 30mm cannon for counter UAS.

BREAKING: M-SHORAD Wonât Make Armyâs Self-Imposed 2023 Deadline for Fielding
Could be anything from the Technical Manuals arenât ready in time to the software to the integration of the various systems to the systemâs effectiveness to delay in testing to safety issues to whatever.
Iâm for TRX SHORAD as HMMWV âAvengerâ just has a .50cal M3 with eight Stingers and TRX SHORAD has 30mm (and maybe 7.62mm COAX) and is unmanned. But the US Army has to commit to the unmanned TRX platform first. TRX SHORAD can help US Army Airborne, Light Forces, and Arctic Forces and the USMC can use some too. The USMC has SHORAD on their RIwP JLTV turrets and Stingers in their MRZRs so USMC is fine. US Army needs to replace their aging HMMWV âAvengers.â
If modified more, the TRX SHORAD platform might host AIM-9Xs, JAGM ATGMs, and even SPIKE NLOS-ER launch rails for even more missile range than Stingers.
