I’ve completed the SU-122-54 early version from MiniArt.
Overall, the kit left a very positive impression. The model is well engineered, with a high level of detail straight out of the box. The fit of the parts was good, and the assembly went smoothly without any major issues. With careful cleanup and dry fitting, everything comes together nicely.
The modifications were minimal and mostly focused on refining some smaller details. A few plastic parts were replaced with copper wire and brass/copper tubing to achieve a more scale-appropriate appearance. This mainly included handles, some thin structural elements, and a few small details that benefit from sharper definition compared to the kit parts. I also slightly refined the thickness of several components where it improved the overall look.
In general, the kit is already well detailed, so it doesn’t require extensive aftermarket or heavy scratch-building. Most of the work was careful assembly, cleanup, and attention to small details. It builds well both as an out-of-the-box project and as a solid base for further detailing.
MiniArt did a very nice job with this SU-122-54. The kit builds into a convincing model with relatively little effort, and the project was enjoyable from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone interested in post-war Soviet armor.
