SUPERCHARGE 2’ November '42
SHERMAN II WARWICKSHIRE YEOMANRY 9’ARM.BGD 2’NEOZ.DIV.
In the night positions are gained but at dawn the advance turns into a mutual point black massacre between tanks and opposing anti-tank artillery. At the end of the operation only 19 surviving tanks out of 94 with more than 200 dead and wounded men, the task assigned has been fulfilled but what a price.
I see from my narrow and uncomfortable trench a tank hit between the wheels. The turret begins to turn, I see it vibrate then a powerful explosion, the flames flare up like a blowtorch. All I think is: Lord, help those poor people inside and I’m very happy to be crouched in my now comfortable trench.
