T-34-85 gifted by Gorbachev at the Indiana Military Museum

Robert Costa in 1991 wrote a letter to General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev requesting the donation of a WW2 tank for his local museam in Wisconsin. Much to everyone’s surprise and delight GS Gorbachev responded.

It’s a Model 1969 I think.

This was posted on the tank.

I thought the the tank might be a modernized refitted ~1944 T-34-85.

The tank’s serial number is B-3438 according to the information card posted on the tank. Hopefully, someone familiar with T-34-85 serial numbers can provide more insight.

I make no claim of any sort of informed opinion on T-34’s but my impression was the welds and cast texture on the turret were rougher than the one post war T-34-85 I’ve seen.

It wasn’t made in '69, just modified around that time frame.
Edit- Model 1960: T-34/85, MiniArt 37089 (2021)

Cool, thanks for sharing.

I am no expert but considering the roughness of the turret cast, I would not be surprised if it was truly WW2

Even the welds are ugly! But who cared! It ran, and it had a gun, and it killed Nazi’s!
