Historians M. Kolomiets and I. Moshchansky write that this letter means the number of the battalion in the brigade. “a” - the first battalion.
And one more note on the model itself.
Tactical designations on a real tank were applied to the turret not from two sides, but from three sides - on the left, right and on the back of the turret. I did only left and right.
The manufacturer of the model did not say a word about this in the instructions. Although there are three “arrows” on the decal sheet!
So, if you build this model, don’t forget to put the decal with the tactical designation on the back of the turret as well.
