As a T55 enthusiast I am anxious to get this kit. Didn’t even know this variant existed. But to paraphrase Odd Ball, “I only build em, I don” know what makes em run."

It is an active protection system that blast out fragmentation. Sometimes the tank is refereed as T-55AMD, because for some reason these were installed on some T-55A without upgraded fire control system and radio, which is apparently also called T-55AD. The one Takom is releasing is the T-55AM based.

According to some questionable source that I can’t even find back anymore, It was not widely used because of the fragmentation blast has big lethal range to infantry, and the Soviet also determined that non missile projectiles were more of a concern, which they used the ERA brick instead.
