Well, well done Takom! I was completely unaware of this tank - though I confess I’m no Ninja when it comes to experimental tanks of the period; that said, I’m still recovering from the Chrysler TV-8!

I suppose in a way this ties in with the wretched attempt by Dragon some years ago with their T54E1, also with an oscillating turret.

If one was cynical one could say that Takom are merely capitalising on their M103 moulds, but why not? As I say, I was unaware of this particular tank, and it’s not uninteresting.

I don’t think I’ll get one - far too much already in the stash for a start - but I can see the attraction in modelling experimental tanks, but I don’t really want to get sucked in to the genre.

Hats off to Takom though; it’ll be interesting to see what eventually comes in the box.

They also announced a T57

I hope they include canvas covers for the turret pivots

I don’t actually see much canvas on the beast - or am I missing something?

Happy to be educated of course(!)

I’ll be smuggling these two into the basement most definitely. Bravo Takom! I’ve got ancient photos of these tanks from Aberdeen Proving Ground buried somewhere. I’ll have to start digging. These are actually exciting, significant releases.

It’s obvious that Takom used the drawings from “Firepower” (as did we, by the way). But the tank in the photo is significantly different from the drawing and the model. The turret is higher, the cutout under the gun is much narrower and of a different shape…at least in this photo. I need to dig out the book to see if there was more than one tank, which would explain the differences.

No, you are not missing something. But similar to the T54, these tanks would have canvas protecting the opening of the pivoting mount had they gone into production. The covers will make the build more interesting, I will scratchbuild one if neccessary.

I suppose they’d have to have canvas somewhere, even if only to attempt to achieve a full seal in the event of chemical attacks.

I always had a hankering to tackle the Dragon T54E1 but the fixes required looked a bit too much for me (having just said I don’t want to start making experimental tanks!)

Takom’s T30/34 was pretty good. Takom’s M103A1 looks very nice in the box. Will definitely pick these up and build them this year.

OK, it might be fun for those interested in experimental vehicles, but I wish they would do a M60 Slick before more of these.
I like Takom kits, but I see some lost opportunities here.

You are right. An injection moulded high quality M60 turret is s so overdue.
