T72M1 to T72B

Is it possible to convert the hull of the Tamiya T72M1 to a T72B?

Sure, with work and some extra parts. I am currently updating the Zvezda/Dragon T72B to a T72B3 with an extra B3 sprue I bought off eBay and a few 3D printed parts (currently printing) I found on Cults3D. The main parts are the new front glacis Kontakt 5 plate, wind sensor, and Sosna-U thermal sight. The rest is add Kontakt 5 plates on the turret and rear sides. All easy to buy, print, or scratch.

I have a ton of kontakt 5 from the Ukrainian M1A1 kits i have
do i need to change or modify the glacis on thew Tamiya hull?

You still need to change it. The T-72B3 has a different front glacis and different angled plates on the turret. They are not standard Kontakt 5 blocks.

Actually, if you want to do just a T72B, you can remove the “V” on the glacis and cover it with the standard Kontakt 5 blocks and be correct. The B doesn’t have the new front glacis or turret plates, nor the wind sensor. They are all B3 features.

Not my area of primary interest but I believe there was an aftermarket glacis offer for this once upon a time.

Let me check the stash when back home because there’s a Tamiya T-72 w/an early SBS turret and a couple of replacement glacis(es) from someone.

thanks

@tanknick22 Nick,

I have a spare SP front glacis. It’s yours if you want it, free no strings etc.

I’d like to keep the glacis that matches to the SBS T-72B/B1 turret w/ERA added. No idea which one that is, I so grabbed both SP parts when they were on clearance.
