Takom 1/16 Panzer 3 Ausf.J

Hello everyone…I am getting started on Takom’s Panzer 3…

I also got the correct size outer wheels (they came with the kit from EBay)…the kit wheels need sanded out to allow the inner wheels to snap in…

I wanted to do the Wiking Vorpanzer version but Takom really dropped the ball (for European censorship)?..

those black dots are supposed to be this…

I am going to be doing a 1st SS panzer at Kharkov in March 43…

except I am going to use my artistic license and make it a long barrel 50mm…I have some SS infantry in their “Kharkov” parkas in the mail…there is a lot of plastic in the kit.

Happy Modeling everyone!

I didn’t have to sand mine to get them to fit; maybe a mold alignment issue with a small batch?

IDK for 100% if it is every kit…but I saw quite a few builders complaining about it…so when I saw them included…I said to myself…why not? Lol

Got the hull done….is this enough slack for the tracks? I did the 93 in the instructions…debating whether to add one more?

What do you all think?

Also on the spare track….I assume these pin heads should be drilled out?

Maybe one or two. Look at some period pics for reference.

Yes, and picture a rod going thru the block and drill holes in those areas.

The slack looks OK, since it was highly variable from vehicle to vehicle. However, you need to “equalize” it more between the gaps. You have more slack showing between the first and second return rollers then the rest. Yes, the sag will show more since the gap is greater, but right now it does not look equal.

Thx…..I think I will add one more, and yes I will even them out when I install them at the end of the build.

Making some slow progress….but getting there…..

I have made some progress…..I think I am the slowest modeler.

I gave up on the tow cables and how they were wrapped and stored, my tank was a good teammate and gave them to another crew to help them out of the mud.

Off to the paint booth.

I have the basecoat painting done….decals are on…. Just waiting for them to dry so I can do a clear coat over the decals…tracks are painted and weathered…….next comes hairspray and the white wash.
