Takom 1/35 M4A1 VVSS build

I do so many M4 based vehicles that I have a plexiglass jig for drilling those holes.

Did you build or purchase the jig. Thanks

I have one that is made by a 3D company, and I think there is also a PE set that has a jig.

Much like RFM’s, then. I think I prefer the way Takom did their M3 medium idler wheels, with separate rings to glue into the rim (like MiniArt, except Takom does the rings in plastic instead of etched brass).

To mould the bolt heads on the inside, by the looks of it. But they missed the hole in the top of the bogie that serves to take tension off the springs for replacing the arms.

HI guys. New poster here. I have just started on this kit as well but will turn it into an M-1. The Asuka road wheels will have a little slop in them if you want to replace the Takom roadwheels but that’s the only way to get the 6-spoke stamped. The bogie housing does have the volute tensioning points on top. However, they are proud and stick up a bit.

One does get a choice of wheels in the kit, so there is a option.

A club buddy built my bogie jig.

Do you have a photo of the jig that you can share?

I have a version similar to this one.

Here it is. You put it on top of the bogie truck (before you put the track skid on) and drill the two holes in the top and the four holes on the front side. The two holes in the top are for releasing spring tension, and the four holes on the side are for reversing the bogie. Handmade by Clay Caras of the Northeast Military Modelers Association.

Nice. I have been eyeballing it for decades, with varying degrees of “success.” Might have to get one.

I offered a set of skids and a drilling jig on Shapeways back in the day - maybe I need to dust it off and put it on Cults?

@SSGToms

All I build is Shermans so ages ago I bought a jig, then I hated it and then I built my own and then I hated that one too😂…now I just eyeball the holes and never think twice about it😉

I did this suspension yesterday, all the holes free hand…if you zoom in you can see the holes.

I picked up one of those. Did you also have the skids or was that someone else?

Suspension trucks are done and now just need some clean up.

I just bought and downloaded it. Thanks for the link!

There were several sets on SW - mine was a sprued box with six skids and the jig all attached.

While looking for other 3D parts I came across them.
