Started this last week. Zimm is molded on including in the lower hull. Evenly applied, no chipped off areas. Indy tracks that come with a jig to get the proper sag. Nothing exciting so far just the lower hull, road wheels, and tracks. Everything is just test fitted. No issues thus far. Going for the scheme below. Never tried it before so we’ll see how it goes. Construction about 90% complete. Tow cables, MG mount, and a few other bits still need to be installed. Minimal PE, only for the screens on the engine deck. No clear parts for optics. Pretty much a trouble free build. Thanks for looking.

Nice build DV, but disappointing they don’t include any type of vision block for it …strange how some firms think.

There are vision blocks, just not clear. Strange though since their Sherman and Tiger kits do,

So, I think I found something more mind numbing than assembling indy tracks. Punching out disks and applying them was time consuming and a real test of my patience. Disks were punched with a small hole punch that I bought at Hobby Lobby. Only the turret is done as I thought it would be easiest to strip if I screwed up. Pretty happy with it despite talking 3 days. Tell me what you think. Thanks for looking.

Sooooo. After a 2-3 hour session I punched the disks and finished masking off the brown and then sprayed the green. Let it dry for a day then in a marathon sessions of about 51/2 hours(actually about half before and half after lunch) I punched out the disks and masked the green, then sprayed the yellow. Next up will be detail painting, tools, tow cable, etc. Overall for my first time( and probably the last) I think it turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

Preliminary weathering with a darker than usual wash. The surfaces without I’m don’t get as dark without the recesses. Pinwash and some dust next. That will probably be it as I don’t want to distract from the camo. Thanks for looking.

To anyone on the forum: How was this camo applied in real life and why was it chosen?

I don’t know how it was applied IRL, but I’m guessing it wasn’t by masking circles of all the same size.
The reason for choosing it, I would guess, is because it’s basically an early, likely unscientific version of camouflage with what dual-tex camouflage in the 1970s called “macro” and “micro” patterns. The dots around the edges, as well as any little bits of the base colour inside the larger patches, break up the outlines of the camouflage patches. The result is that when seen up close, there are lots of little blotches that blend with the detail of the surroundings, while from a distance, the little blotches meld into the larger ones and blend with the large areas of colour that are what you can see of the background from far away.

In fact there should be 3 different sizes of dots. The next size down was too small with the punches I was able to find. The next size up was too large. In the end I opted for just the one size.

Finished. Overall a very nice kit. Minimal PE, good fit, and trouble free assembly. Only problem was the spare track hangers. On one, a bracket was twisted so the holes for the retaining pin did not line up. Tried to gently straighten it but of course it broke so I had to fashion a new one. On the opposite side one of the hanger bars was broken so that also had to be scratched. Thanks for looking.
