The third Tiger I kit announced by Takom is a special Otto Carius Edition
Actually, according to the information, his name was “Carlus”
I appreciate that English is not the first language for the designers, but if you are going to offer a special edition of something with a famous person, you should check, re-check, double check and then triple check that you’ve got the name spelled correctly. And if you are still not sure, check with a knowledgeable someone that is an English speaker; there are lots of us out there.
From what I can see of “Carlus,” it’s a pretty good approximation. Not sure he ever wore the trousers with the large pocket, but he did wear a second-pattern mouse-grey Panzer wrap in the famous newsreel of him (hard to see, but apparently on the figure). Also, I believe the cap he wore was a modified Luftwaffe cap and not a standard Army overseas cap as depicted in the figure. I’ll let those more qualified than I to discuss the merits of the tank model itself.
Detractors & Takom haters will absolutely have a field day with that!
Listen carefully…I can already hear…
Takom, they can’t even get Otto Carius’s name right so why should we think they got the tracks right or engine deck grates right or other details right?
I hope it’s a fantastic kit.
I’m getting it. This looks like a great kit. I really like the Zimmerit. As soon as it’s available for pre-order I’m ordering. I have built several Takom kits and have had no problems. This is a winner,
That question does not come up.
Objective evidence says their CAD has the grates wrong.
This is not a he-said she-said debate.

I’m making myself give Takom the benefit of the doubt until we see the sprues. Maybe they fixed their screwed up CAD file at the last minute.
I have to make a conscious effort to avoid bias against new Takom products. I don’t like Takom in general due to their lousy Pz III. Their Stug apparently shares the Pz III’s faults. Talked to or read about too many folks having fit issues with the Takom Panther A and so on.
The only issue I have is that the front of that tank (217) had large areas of the zimm damaged that will not be replicated on their zimmed version. Short of that I expect it to be accurate.
