Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk XVI

My Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire LF Mk XVI SL727 in the markings of 601 County of London Sqn HT-L of the RAuxF, North Weald, at the end of 1949.

All markings are painted on, including the winged sword emblem.

I detailed the engine using Albion Alloys Aluminium tube and Braided wire (The manufacturer of which I can’t remember!) for the ignition harness.

This is a beautiful kit to build but I was curious about modellers saying that the, in scale thickness, cowlings didn’t fit very well. There are small magnets fitted to each but a study of the cowling panels gave me what I think that the problem is for those modellers. There are tiny tabs at the front and rear of each panel that hook into the model, the forward ones are trapped by the spinner. I believe that the modellers who reported a poor fit have cut these tabs off!

And I couldn’t resist photographing these 2 together.

Very nice! I always loved a silver spit! The engine looks superb!
