Getting my teeth into the late-tool Tamiya Kübelwagen and having an interesting time learning about the real vehicle with some reading on the side.
I picked up a reference to vehicles being initially delivered from the factory for shipping to North Africa in overall grey, with the desert sand colour being applied when received in theatre.
What I wanted to know is whether the visible interiors of the vehicle were repainted along with the exteriors ?
It’s been interesting to have a look at some of the modern-day Kübelwagen restoration projects, though as with some restorations, authenticity aligned with a historical time & place can’t always be established.
There was another thread with a similar question the other day, showing amongst others, a Kübel with the entire body removed from the chassis and drivetrain. I guess it would be rather easy to pick out the seats as well and have a go both inside and out when repairing and repainting.
Thanks to all of you for the welcome and your generous responses, particularly yours Frenchy in posting that collection of images. That’s exactly what I would have been looking for in terms of evidence of that passing comment I reported. I’m expecting to build my Kübelwagen with the canvas cover stowed (OOB) as I don’t have access to my aftermarket stash ATM. I’ve collected a few of the Tamiya old and new tooled kits of the Kübelwagen, so there’ll be future opportunities to vary things a bit.
Hi Alfred! Welcome to the forums from a near neighbour (anywhere this side of the planet is considered near!) Great to have you onboard and will be excellent to see your build if you’re happy to share as it goes along.
