Tamiya 1/35 Panther Type G — Ambush Camo Build & Paint

Hi everyone! Just finished painting my Tamiya 1/35 Panther Type G (kit #35176) and wanted to share the build here.

This one was all about the ambush camouflage — freehand dots with a brush over a three-color base. Definitely the most challenging paint job I’ve tackled so far, but really enjoyed the process.

Colors used:

  • Base: Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow + XF-57 Buff (7:3)
  • Green: XF-58 Olive Green + XF-62 Flat Black + XF-18 Medium Blue (6:3:1)
  • Brown: XF-64 Red Brown + XF-9 Hull Red (7:3)

Weathering:

  • Panel line wash with AK045 Dark Brown Wash + AK046 Light Rust
  • Sponge chipping with Buff
  • Pigments fixed with enamel thinner
  • Dotting with AMMO Oilbrusher

Perhaps it’s me, but in all honestly, and I recognise I may well be denying myself a treat, but I really can’t be bothered to go off the site and look at videos; there’s also the guy who posts mainly in the evenings and “would I like to visit such and such a Google account?”; the regrettable answer is “No, I wouldn’t” I just can’t be arsed. I find it distracts from what I’m actually looking at on Armorama for, to be honest; why not keep it within the constraints of the site and just post decent pics? That’s what everyone else seems to do!

Obviously an age/ distraction thing, but why post here and then tell me I’ve got to visit other mediums to see what you’ve done. To be honest, it verges on the irritating, so clearly not for this callsign.

Sometimes watching how someone does something makes it easier to do it yourself. Similar to watching how someone fixes something on YouTube before you have to fix it yourself.

Nice video. Agree with Topsmith. I can tell people how to shoot all day long, but if I don’t show them, they might just be converting perfectly good bullets into noise. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

As for the actual camo, for reasons I don’t remember, I like to make little pizza wedge shapes for the spots. Perhaps I saw it on a museum piece once. I’ve even though of making a little rubber stamp to make them more uniform. A little weathering will tone everything down.

The pizza wedge idea is brilliant — and a rubber stamp would be perfect for uniform spots. Definitely stealing that idea for my next ambush camo build! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

No, it’s just me being grumpy at having to multi-task! More accurately, resistance to change, having to undertake something differently I suspect.

Ignore this curmudgeon - utilise the system as you see fit!
