Tamiya/italeri Crusader Mk. III 1/35

Hey folks,

Here’s another quick OOB build - I wanted to do a Crusader after watching some videos on Operation Crusader (heh) and Battleaxe. Nicely looking vehicle, but honestly not as great as its reputation suggests.

Italeri/Tamiya Crusader III (1/35). This was good practice before I work on the Border Model kit in the future. Apparently in 1942/43, there was an order to repaint in-theater tanks with Green (The Tunisian area was supposedly quite full of vegetation and not a desert) - I based the info rom Paul Owen/Starmer posts in Missing-Lynx. I chose Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green II as it is a RAF color and I thought there might be a chance the tank depots got a hold of some spare cans of paint from their RAF counterparts.

Anyway, thanks for looking.

Very sweet looking build! Good to see an old school build! A++

Thank you for posting this inspirational model. I have one in the stash to break out and do one day.

Excellent job Nigel. That old kit still builds up nicely. Nice finish.
I have the Border kit in my stash as well but it will have to wait for other projects ahead of it.

Thanks Wade. Regardless of any inaccuracies, the kit was surprisingly pleasant to build aside from the sand shields (and that’s mainly because their attachment is pretty vague and loose). I actually purchased a Crusader I after this as I’d like to do a caunter scheme on this vehicle.

Thanks Richard. After looking at the Border Model kit - I can say that it is certainly better detailed than the venerable but still decent italeri kit. Would definitely like to build it in a North African themed Group Build in the future.
